Meet the counselor!

Who is the School Counselor?

My name is Taylor Wisner, and I am the school counselor at Winfield Elementary. I received my bachelor’s degree in education studies with a minor in psychology from Goucher College. I went on to receive my master’s degree in school counseling from Loyola University Maryland in addition to my national certified counselor certification. After serving as the school counseling intern in the fall of 2023, I am fortunate to now be the school counselor at Winfield Elementary. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 410-751-3242 or tewisne@carrollk12.org. I look forward to another great school year!

Types of Counseling:

Individual Counseling- students can come see the counselor for one-on-one support in the areas of academics, emotional, or social needs on an as-needed short-term basis. Students can complete counselor appointment passes within their classrooms or ask their teachers to speak with me. If the parent and/or school counselor feels the student could benefit from additional counseling, the school counselor can provide referrals to a community mental health professional.

Group Counseling- based on identified needs a small group of students will meet weekly in the counseling office for additional support. The sessions would last approximately 30 minutes and run for 6-8 sessions during the school day. Students can only participate in group counseling if a permission slip has been signed by a parent or guardian.

Classroom Lessons- the counselor will design and implement developmentally appropriate lessons that target academic, career, or social emotional needs. Each grade level will receive a total of 6 lessons though out the school year each being for a total of 30 minutes.
